How to get KolXPD

You can download KolXPD from http://kolxpd.kolibrik.net/

Default licence - viewer

After new installation KolXPD works as viewer with full import features. You can import all supported types of data and open files saved by KolXPD. In viewer, it is not possible to save or export data. But you can copy to clipboard - items, data and charts bitmaps or metafiles.

Trial licence

You can acquire trial licence after installation of KolXPD in Registration window. Trial licence is for one month evaluation and is full-featured. Than it will change to viewer.

  • Commercial - full licence for non-academic users
  • Academic - full licence for academic users
  • Satellite - for second computer of particular user
  • Student - significantly discounted for computers of student's own

Creation of Parameter-Resolved Experiment items from set of spectra

Imagine you have maesured set of spectra manually that differs e.g. in polar angle. You can import spectra to KolXPD and convert them into one angle-resolved PRE item.

Spectra in PRE items can be processed and displayed together quickly and easily. All spectra can be fitted with same fit function and fit results can be displayed in graphs. 2D angle-resolved experiments can be displayed as image maps of intensity in polar coordinates, e.g. XPD diffraction patterns. Band-mapping experiments can be displayed as image of intensity in binding energy versus angle/primary energy coordinates. 2D angle band-mapping can be displyed also in k-space coordinates.

How to make conversion:

  1. Import spectra and prepare them in dedicated folder and in appropriate order.
  2. Select the folder (or select desired spectra at once) and than right-click to invoke context-menu. Click on Convert to prm-resolved experiment ... item.
  3. Conversion window will be opened. Fill in all fields according your experiment. Informations and erros are displayed at the bottom.
  4. X axis range: All spectra should have similar X axis (Ekin or Ebin) range. Conversion window will automatically determine common interval and finest step. Values can be altered in fields Start, Step, End at the right-top in Axes/Units in item data panel. X axes of input spectra must not be exactly same - Y data will be interpolated into specified range during conversion.
  5. Select type of a parameter that varies in your sequence. Then you can change title of the parameter. You should check length of the sequence and specify starting value of the parameter and it's step.
  6. You can convert data where 2 parameters are changing through the sequence. You must specify values for inner and outer loop separately. Inner loop is that parameter which changes between 1st and 2nd spectrum and then after length of inner loop starts from starting value again. Outer loop is parameter that is same for each run of inner loop and goes from starting value to the ending one only once. Check loop lengths, their multiple must correspond with input data count.
  7. Click OK, PRE item will be created and selected.

Item types

Available item types in KolXPD1:

- Experiment file: Root for all other items.
- Folder: All items can be organized in folders. Folders can have subfolder of unlimited level.
- Region: One spectrum as wave of X versus Y data.
- MultiView: Graph showing multiple spectra with many instant processing options. Can exist as an item or can be invoked by selecting more regions at one time.

Parameter-resolved experiment items:

- XPD/ARPES: 1D/2D angle scans - X-ray photoelectron diffraction, Band mapping, etc.
- Sequence: Time scans or general spectra sequences.
- NEXAFS/ResPES/...: 1D scans by primary energy (using monochromator at synchrotron) - ResonantPES, NEXAFS, etc.
- EDAC: Results of EDAC2 calculated XPD pattern. 2D angle data, each angle point contains only a number - calculated intensity.


- Cluster: Cluster file for EDAC2 XPD pattern calculations.
- Notes: HTML or plain text.
- Image browser: Browser e.g. for LEED patterns.

Non-data items for experiment logging:

- sputtering
- heating
- sputtering of hot sample
- exposure by a gas
- deposition

Installation and activation of KolXPD

To install and activate  KolXPD please follow these instructions:

Installation:

  1. Download KolXPD setup from http://kolxpd.kolibrik.net.
  2. Execute setup file, it will guide you through installation process.
  3. You can run KolXPD now, plain installation of KolXPD works as data viewer without activation.

Activation of a licence:

  1. If you purchased a licence, you were supplied by a licence file. Find this file and prepare for opening in activation process.
  2. Run KolXPD and click on the button "Registration ..." in the about panel in the middle, it will open licensing window.
  3. Click the button "Enter licence file ...". It will open your internet browser with a registration form.
  4. Enter a license file here and submit the form. Activation file will be generated and sent to your email.
  5. Open your email and save attached activation file anywhere temporarily.
  6. In license window of KolXPD click the button "Enter activation file ...", find the activation file and open it.
  7. KolXPD will be activated and the "about" panel will change and show your licence information.

Creating a trial licence:

  1. Install and run KolXPD and then click on the button "Registration ..." in the about panel in the middle, it will open licensing window.
  2. Click the button "Generate trial licence ...". It will open your internet browser with a registration form.
  3. Fill in the form and submit. Trial licence will be generated and activation file will be sent you by email.
  4. Follow point 5 of "Activation of a licence".

Some remarks:

  • Activation must be done by Windows user account that has rights to install (e.g. same user that installed KolXPD).
  • Activation works for all Windows user accounts.
  • Activation file must be used exactly for that computer, from which it was generated.
  • With one license you can activate only one kolxpd installation at a time.
  • If you need to reinstall computer or you move to new one, you can activate KolXPD using a license file again.
  • Standard activation needs internet connection. If your computer don't have connection, select offline activation procedure in licensing window and follow instructions. You will need other computer with internet connection and a flash disk to transfer files between computers.
  • After activation you can delete the activation file. You should keep your license files. But I have all license files backed up, in case you lost them, just write me.
